Menus

THE FILE MENU

This menu provides options to load and save the current document as plain text and in nte's structured block format. The Checksum Protocol Option allows the user to choose whether periodic page checking is used by nte. A quit operation is also provided.

THE EDIT MENU

This allows the deletion and undeletion of the current block. A history of 20 blocks is kept which any member of the conference can access. It supports the current block being lowered below or raised above other blocks so that you can get at a block that would otherwise be unreachable. Cut, Copy and Paste features are also provided which allow you to create multiple copies of blocks. Any block which is removed by using the cut command can be replaced by using the undelete function. The paste function can be used to generate multiple copies of a block.

THE COLOURS MENU

This allows the current default colour and the colour of the block currently being edited to be set. Colours are primarily to distinguish between different people editing the same document. You cannot set parts of a block to different colours - only the whole block. The colours have been chosen to be fairly dark, so that text is clearly readable.

THE FONTS MENU

This allows the current font style and the style of the block currently being edited to be set. The only options supported and normal, italic, bold and bold-italic in a courier fixed font font. This is to enable documents to be saved as plain text, without the problems that would result from variable width fonts. The different font styles are available to aid disambiguation of different users text. You cannot for instance set part of a block to bold - only the entire block.

THE SHOW MENU

This allows parts of the application interface to be hidden to save screen space.
